About VAST Data

VAST Data is a data infrastructure company that delivers scalable, all-flash storage and data platform solutions for AI, cloud, and enterprise workloads.

It was founded in 2016 by Renen Hallak, who set out to eliminate the tradeoffs between performance, scalability, and cost in enterprise storage.

The company’s primary product is the VAST DataStore operating system, which combines flash storage with advanced data reduction to replace traditional tiered storage systems.

VAST has expanded into providing a data platform that integrates compute and storage to power AI and large-scale data processing.

The company is headquartered in New York City.

The name “VAST” reflects its mission to enable vast amounts of data to be stored, processed, and utilized efficiently.

Competing with players like Dell, Pure Storage, and NetApp, VAST differentiates itself with its disaggregated, software-driven architecture and AI-focused solutions.

Here’s a recent video introducing the VAST Data AI Operating System.

Valuation

The latest confirmed VAST Data valuation is $9.1 billion, based on the Series E funding round that closed in December 2023.

An August 2025 Reuters report suggests the company is raising a Series F at a $30 billion valuation.

Secondary marketplaces indicate the VAST Data valuation has risen since then. As of Q3 2025, Caplight estimates the valuation at $17.5 billion.

IPO Potential

The VAST Data IPO date is unknown. As a venture-backed startup that is growing, profitable, and expanding rapidly, it may be an IPO candidate within 12 to 24 months.

The company hired Amy Shapero as its first Chief Financial Officer in August 2024. Shapero is a former CFO of Spotify and was hired as the company prepares for its next stage of growth.

Some industry analysts saw this hire as a sign of a potential IPO. Startups hire a CFO to get their books in order so they have the option to go public when ready.

Aside from hiring the CFO, the company aims to raise its valuation to nearly $30 billion as of Q3 2025. This new valuation would set the company up for an IPO, as a growing company leading in a trending industry (AI).

How to Invest in VAST Data Stock

It can be challenging to acquire shares of high-demand pre-IPO companies at a fair price.

Most investors must settle for buying the stock after it begins trading.

With a rapidly growing valuation from private funding rounds and the benefits of the AI boom, investors may become eager to own this stock.

I expect to see high demand for this deal. IPO can position themselves to invest.

1. Access VAST Data Stock Pre-IPO

VAST Data is not public yet.

With a rising valuation, direct or indirect shares (SPVs) may become available for ordinary investors.

Multiple pre-IPO investment platforms may offer VAST Data stock for early equity purchase as employees or early investors seek to liquidate some of their shares before the VAST Data IPO.

Accredited investors may access these investment opportunities, provided they are registered on the platform and receive notifications about their availability.

Monitor pre-IPO investing platforms such as Hiive, Forge Global, EquityZen, and Nasdaq Private Markets for share availability.

Investment minimums range from $5,000 to $50,000 or more on these platforms.

Non-accredited investors can own pre-IPO companies via venture capital funds targeted at retail investors.

The Fundrise Innovation Fund (review) is the most promising for patient, long-term investors. The Fund aims to own fast-growing technology companies in the data infrastructure space (it holds Databricks, for example), but VAST Data is not currently held in the Fund.

2. Participate in the VAST Data IPO through a broker

Interested investors may find opportunities to invest during the IPO if and when it arrives. That means acquiring shares at the IPO price the night before the company begins trading.

The underwriters will tightly control shares. But savvy investors can access IPOs if they know where to look.

Once reserved for Wall Street’s wealthiest customers, IPO access has become more attainable to retail investors.

Online brokers like the following give customers free access to IPOs, even with low account balances.

TradeStation has a longer track record of accessing more than 400 IPOs and secondary offerings via its partnership with Click Markets.

Robinhood has the advantage of Silicon Valley networks and a history of getting allocations for high-profile IPOs.

3. Buy VAST Data after the Stock Begins Trading

Most investors will not be able to own VAST Data stock until after the IPO. Patient investors can wait until after the IPO to buy shares.

There are several advantages to waiting until after the IPO to invest.

First of all, time as a public company will unveil more details about the business in its quarterly earnings releases and management calls.

Second, pre-IPO investors may need to wait until after the lockup period to sell shares. This can cause a stock sell-off near the 180th day after the IPO. Value investors may find long-term opportunities if they are patient.

Lastly, investors should avoid chasing inflated IPOs. If you cannot invest at the IPO, allow the markets some time to discover a fair price and valuation. This can be advantageous to buy-and-hold investors who can find an attractive entry point based on fundamentals.

Where is the VAST Data S-1 Filing?

VAST Data’s S-1 filing isn’t public yet, but it will be shared here if it becomes available.

Conclusion

VAST Data has grown from an upstart challenger in storage to a significant force in data infrastructure.

By building around an AI-focused architecture and business model, the company has carved out space in a market long dominated by older, established players.

Its surge in private valuation highlights strong investor confidence and the momentum of the broader AI wave.

Rising private valuations don’t always translate smoothly to the public markets, since long-term investors expect growth, solid financials, and a clear path to profits. Bringing in an experienced CFO demonstrates that VAST is focused on discipline and preparing its books for closer scrutiny.

If VAST goes public, the IPO will test Wall Street’s appetite for infrastructure firms and whether Wall Street is willing to reward profitability alongside growth. If it precedes the hotly anticipated Databricks IPO, it could be a preview of what is possible for that deal.

For investors, the decision is less about timing the IPO perfectly and more about assessing whether VAST’s model has lasting appeal in a market dominated by larger incumbents. IPOs are also a balance act of pricing and market demand.

Interested investors can monitor pre-IPO marketplaces for shares or prepare to invest in the VAST Data IPOs by following the steps outlined above.
