About eToro

eToro is a Tel Aviv, Israel-based private online trading platform founded in 2007 by brothers Ronen and Yoni Assia alongside David Ring. The company aims to democratize global finance (a common fintech refrain).

Initially focused on forex trading, eToro expanded to offer multiple investment options, including stocks, commodities, and cryptocurrencies.

Its social trading platform offers CopyTrading, where users replicate the investment strategies of other traders, encouraging a community-based approach to investing.

eToro has become a prominent global player in the retail trading market, serving millions of users across over 100 countries. Competing with platforms like Robinhood, SoFi Invest, Webull, Moomoo, and Coinbase, eToro differentiates itself with its unique combination of social features and multi-asset capabilities.

As it continues to innovate with offerings like NFTs and staking services (locking crypto coins to support blockchain operations), eToro is positioned to take advantage of the growing popularity of alternative digital assets and social investing. However, it faces challenges from regulatory scrutiny and fierce competition in an increasingly crowded fintech landscape.

Valuation

The latest confirmed pre-IPO eToro valuation was $3.5 billion based on the March 2023 funding round.

The initial terms indicated the company was aiming for a $4 billion market cap. But a report emerged the deal is oversubscribed and a price increase is likely.

IPO Potential

The eToro IPO date was Wednesday, May 14th, 2025. The company filed for an IPO on March 24th, 2025.

The April 2nd tariff announcement introduced uncertainty into the market and froze nearly all IPO activity.

eToro filed confidentially in early 2025, as reported by the Financial Times. In December 2024, Bloomberg reported that eToro hired Goldman Sachs to lead its IPO and could go public as soon as Q2 2025. That is on track with the latest filing news.

In February 2024, eToro CEO Yoni Assia told CNBC:

We definitely are eyeing the public markets. I definitely see us becoming eventually a public company. When is the ideal time to do that? We’re always evaluating the right opportunity at the right time and the right market.

In March 2021, eToro announced plans to go public through a $10.4 billion SPAC merger with FinTech Acquisition Corp V, led by Betsy Z. Cohen.

The deal faced setbacks from market volatility and financial control issues within the SPAC, ultimately collapsing by mid-2022.

We’ll learn more about a potential eToro IPO date if and when it files an S-1 (confidentially or publicly).

If IPO volume increases and other fintech companies successfully launch public offerings in 2025, eToro may accelerate its IPO ambitions, especially if the regulatory environment improves with the new administration.

How to Invest in eToro Stock (pre-IPO)

Most individuals cannot own eToro stock via most pre-IPO investing platforms because of the SEC accreditation requirement.

Furthermore, if and when the eToro IPO date arrives, it will still be difficult for most investors to acquire IPO shares due to high demand. Current customers may have an edge.

Therefore, the most likely way investors can own eToro stock is to wait for the IPO and buy shares after it goes public.

But savvy pre-IPO investors may find other opportunities to own the company before the IPO.

Here are some potential options to own eToro stock before, during, and after the IPO.

1. Participate in the eToro IPO through a broker

Webull and Fidelity have offered eligible customers the opportunity to indicate interest in the eToro IPO.

As far as we know, eToro does not offer IPO access on its platform. However, Robinhood used its IPO to launch IPO access on its platform, so it is possible. The company may find a way to offer IPO shares through other means, potentially through a lead underwriter.

Since eToro is a broker, it may be hesitant to allow IPO allocations to go to low-cost competitors like Robinhood.

When a company goes public, investors can buy the stock during the IPO at the IPO price.

Before, only Wall Street’s top customers could invest in IPOs. But now, retail investors can access IPOs through participating discount brokers.

Some online brokers (like the ones listed below) allow investors to invest in IPOs for free, even if they have limited funds in their accounts.

Brokers secure exclusive IPO share access, and having multiple brokerage accounts can improve your chances of receiving an allocation with high-demand IPOs.

TradeStation, partnered with Click Markets, has facilitated over 400 IPOs and secondary offerings, while Robinhood leverages Silicon Valley networks for high-profile IPO allocations.

Explore the best brokers for IPO investing to learn more about retail investor access.

2. Access eToro Stock pre-IPO

Pre-IPO investment platforms sometimes offer eToro stock for purchase as employees or early investors seek to sell some of their shares before the eToro IPO. The frequency of availability will slow down as the IPO approaches.

Accredited investors may access investment opportunities, provided they are registered on the platform and receive notifications about their availability.

Monitor pre-IPO investing platforms such as Linqto, Forge Global, EquityZen, and Hiive for share availability.

Investment minimums range from $2,500 to $50,000 or more on these platforms.

Pre-IPO investment platform memberships are free, but deal-specific minimum investment amounts may apply and vary.

Non-accredited investors can invest in pre-IPO companies via venture capital funds targeted to retail investors. Venture capital funds are an exciting asset class that emerged in 2022.

The Fundrise Innovation Fund (review) is the most promising for patient, long-term investors.

eToro is not currently held in the Fund. But the company has indicated that financial technology companies will be a foundational target sector.

3. Buy the stock after the eToro IPO

Waiting for the IPO has advantages, like access to detailed financials after the first quarter of trading. Pre-IPO investing often has limited financials for individual investors.

High-demand IPOing companies may have exaggerated valuations. Investors can benefit by attempting to sell near the peak but may suffer when prices revert to fair valuations. Timing the market is always challenging.

IPOs often start with high valuations, but stock prices may fall after the first and second-quarter earnings reports expose significant numbers and trends.

Stock price declines can be excellent entry points for recent IPO stock. Avoid buying overvalued shares immediately after the IPO due to lockup expirations and earnings disappointments.

However, the most disruptive companies may perform better over a decade, so patience is key.

Conclusion

eToro’s path from a forex-focused startup to a global multi-asset trading platform underscores the transformative potential of fintech when paired with innovation and community-centric approaches.

Its emphasis on social trading redefined the retail investing landscape and launched multiple copycats.

As it has now completed its IPO, eToro must navigate significant challenges, including regulatory scrutiny and the volatility inherent in fintech markets.

Success in the public arena will require added regulatory scrutiny but indicate staying power amid fierce competition.

The company’s push into emerging markets like NFTs and staking services reflects its willingness to adapt. Still, long-term growth will hinge on its ability to balance innovation with regulatory compliance and customer trust.

The question of whether eToro can sustain its vision of democratized investing in a saturated market where Robinhood, SoFi Invest, and several other fintechs maintain sticky customer relationships remains.
