This website is owned and maintained by Craig Stephens, a former IT consultant turned full-time finance writer.

Craig is available for on-the-record statements and podcast interviews regarding retail investing in venture capital, innovative pre-IPO startups, and upcoming and recent IPOs. 

He’s also the founder of Retire Before Dad (RBD), a contributor to TIME.com, HumbleDollar, and a former retirement contributor to US News & World Report. His writing has been featured on Business Insider, Yahoo Finance, Seeking Alpha, Becoming Minimalist, Apex Money, Abnormal Returns, Rockstar Finance, All-Star Money (Motley Fool), and the Optimal Finance Daily podcast.

Craig studied Finance at the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University. 

His perspective is from retail/ordinary investors, who are increasingly investing in pre-IPO startups and IPOs thanks to private market access, venture capital funds (e.g., Fundrise Innovation, ARK Venture), and online brokers offering IPO access to customers.

Craig has participated in multiple IPOs, including Lending Club, Blue Buffalo Pets, Dave & Busters, At Home Group, Redfin, Instacart, and ARM. He currently owns several pre-IPO startups via the Fundrise Innovation Fund and the ARK Venture Fund.
